FAQ

High school golf lessons: questions & answers

Straight answers for parents and players about cost, location, winter training and how Varsity Ready Golf works.

Programs & pricing

How much do high school golf lessons cost?

A private outdoor session at Heather Ridge Golf Course is $120, and a 9-hole on-course playing lesson is $170. New players start with a High-School Performance Evaluation so Jason can recommend what fits. See all programs and prices.

What is the High-School Performance Evaluation?

It's the first step for every new player: a swing, short-game and scoring test that shows where the player's game is today and what to work on first. From there, Jason recommends the program that fits the player's level and goals. Book an evaluation.

What happens in an on-course playing lesson?

Players learn to think, strategize and make decisions under real playing conditions. A session can include pre-round goals, club and shot selection, target selection, course management, playing from different lies, risk/reward decisions, short-game decisions, putting strategy, scoring strategy and a post-round review.

Do you help with college golf recruiting?

Location & schedule

Where are the lessons held?

All coaching takes place at Heather Ridge Golf Course, a public golf course in Aurora, Colorado. Private sessions use the course's outdoor practice areas, and playing lessons are out on the course.

When are lessons available?

Evenings & weekends, so sessions fit around school and team practice.

Can my player train during the winter?

All lessons are currently outdoors at Heather Ridge Golf Course, so winter sessions depend on the weather. Indoor lessons aren't available yet. Join the updates list to hear when new programs are announced.

What areas do you serve?

Varsity Ready Golf works with families across the Denver metro, including Aurora, Denver, Centennial, Parker, Englewood and Littleton. All sessions are at Heather Ridge Golf Course in Aurora.

Coaching

What ages do you coach?

Players ages 13–18. That includes JV players working toward varsity, varsity players looking to lower their scoring average, junior tournament players and college-minded players.

What are Jason Anderson's coaching qualifications?

Jason Anderson has 20+ years of coaching experience, is TPI Level 1 certified, spent six years as a PGA Junior Golf Camp lead instructor and has high school coaching experience, including as an assistant high school golf coach in 2015. Read more about Jason.

Can you guarantee my player makes varsity?

No, and no honest coach can. High school coaches make roster decisions. What we do is prepare players to compete for a spot: sound fundamentals, a sharper short game, smarter course management and the confidence to play well when it counts.

Do you coach high school girls?

Yes. Varsity Ready Golf coaches high school boys and girls. Girls' golf is a spring sport in Colorado, and practice opens March 1.

High school golf in Colorado

When is the Colorado high school golf season?

In Colorado, boys' high school golf is a fall sport: practice opens in early August and the state championships are in early October. Girls' high school golf is a spring sport: practice opens March 1 and state is in late May. That makes mid-October through July the boys' off-season and January and February the girls' pre-season, the best windows to build skills before tryouts. Dates are set each year by CHSAA.
